WHAT IS DRY EYE SYNDROME, AND WHAT CAUSES IT?
Dry eye syndrome is a chronic condition. In certain situations, it cannot be completely curable, but in most cases it can be treated successfully. With the right treatment, dry eye syndrome can be managed and result in better vision and greater eye comfort.
Dry eyes occur when the tear glands don’t produce enough tears or have a weaker chemical composition causing them to evaporate too quickly. This can occur when:
- The climate you live in is very dry or dusty
- The heating system in your home or office is too dry
- As a side effect of many medications, especially antidepressants and certain blood pressure medications
TREATMENTS FOR DRY EYE
Although Dry Eye Syndrome can be an ongoing issue, there are many treatments that we offer that can help ease the symptoms.
A terrific solution to the aches of Dry Eye Syndrome are Artificial tears, which are lubricating eyedrops that may alleviate the dry, scratching feeling and foreign body sensation of dry eye. + Antigmatism
Astigmatism is a common disorder that can be easily corrected with treatment. This disorder results in a blurred vision at all distances. Astigmatism can be very irritating, and should be corrected with the right treatement.
WHAT CAUSES ASTIGMATISM?
Astigmatism can be caused by injury to the eye and subsequent scarring of the cornea. Some surgeries that can scar the cornea may also cause astigmatism. Keratoconus, a disease of the eye that causes a thinning of the cornea to occur, can cause astigmatism by changing the shape of the cornea.
TREATMENTS AVAILABLE
The treatment for astigmatism and the blurred sight that it causes include eyeglasses or contact lenses. These will be tailored to your specific form of astigmatism and can greatly improve both your vision and your overall quality of life.
+ Conjunctivitis
Pink Eye
Conjunctivitis, more commonly referred to as ‘pink eye’, is the inflammation of the surface of the eyeball and inner eyelids. It can be contracted through bacteria, virus, and other germs that make it into the eye through contaminated hands, cloth, makeup, and even contacts that have been worn too long.
Conjunctivitis is very contagious and be spread through person to person contact, airborne droplets that are coughed or sneezed, and even sharing makeup or hand towels. Those with this infection should seek out immediate treatment because although it is a minor problem at first, it can develop into serious corneal inflammation if left unchecked.
